Day 13:Day Excursion to Macau - "Monte Carlo of the Orient"
Day 13  Day Excursion to Macau - "Monte Carlo of the Orient"
Join optional day excursion to the ex-Portuguese colony Macau - the so-called "Monte Carlo of the Orient", the dynamic city of gambling in East Asia. After breakfast transfer to pier for a comfortable 1-hour turbojet ride to Macau. Met by your local representative upon arrival. First visit the glorious ruin of St. Paul's - the crumbling fa鏰de is all that remains of the church, an apt metaphor for the decline of European ecclesiastical power in Asia. Then tour Largo do Senado - Sendao Square, the main tiled square of fountains, colonnades, and Portuguese architecture. You then visit A-Ma Temple, dedicated to A-Ma, the goddess of the sea and the queen of heaven, who lends her name to Macau. After an included lunch, you will explore the Casino Lisboa, the biggest casino in Macau. Macau's economy relies heavily on gambling. Nowadays, the gambling industry generates over 40% of the GDP of Macau. Per official statistics, gambling taxes form 64% of Macau's government income. In 2002, the government signed concession contracts, offering casino licenses to two American casino operators - Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts. Then take turbojet back to Hong Kong; met and transfer to your hotel.
